BIOGRAPHY - CV
Ever since the artist Katarina Norling graduated from the Royal University College of Art in 1991 she has received much respect and attention for her truly personal and highly enigmatic works. In the art of Katarina Norling, both words and images play a major role. She has constantly worked with titles and sentences that are rooted in deep personal experiences along with the making of actual images and objects. Old personal things are often used, hidden under many layers of different kinds of materials, often reworked in shapes of beautiful shrines. Lately she has been working with more net-like structures, both as pieces on the floor and hanging on the walls.
Katarina Norling's method of working is often based on working at the site. She does not decide upon the final result until she knows the place. She can rework her sculptures or installations in the very last minute before the opening is due. In order to get the full meaning of her works, the titles and the objects have to be seen as a whole.
Katarina Norling has had several exhibitions at museums and galleries in Scandinavia and abroad. In 1998 she held a grant at IASPIS in Stockholm.
